As I stop and look at the world around to what may
or may not be
I find that there is some fun that was meant to be
as he, yes he
Has found his place, this is where he takes out his
stress and it makes him free
But some as they see it not the same I feel bad as I
know it is just a shame
Because they hate and hate and just don’t relate
I feel as if I am trap and cannot deal and it makes
me just want to sit and meditate
I know that I will prevail and overcome
Because I have the back of the power from all the
people that think the same as me
And if there are ever droughts I shale lift from
them in to power to that I don’t yet understand
But as this is unsure I have guidance from the place
where I can escape
And as I know there are people that stand with me
There are still that which where they try to stop it
I feel as if they will not win
They will fail and nothing of sweet victory because
they are blind by what they don’t know
So as this I say and hope you will agree
That there is a place for all to escape
Not just in realities but in the cyber
Where we can run free and play hard
Because we are not excepted because we cannot be
free
Yes you may have guessed that I am video games and I
will be
Free from the blame and shame of the hate and the
debate

Video
game violence real or not?
The reason that I picked video game violence is because I
think that it is an important topic that needs to be addressed. I also like
this topic because I love to play video games, and I think that some people
just don’t like them, so they come up with the dumbest things just to get rid
of them. But what boils my blood the most is that people get rid of things just
because it does not suit them. But it is also so sweet when they look so stupid
because they were proved wrong. Like one of the best example is the shooting in
2007 at the college and major names like Doctor Phil and Donald trump said
right off the bat that the shooting was due to violent video games. Where in
all reality after an investigation was done the man that shot up the school did
not play video games at all so it looked so good to the video community when
some of the biggest names ever looked like complete morons when they went
wrongly accusing video games of something they never did. Like I say and still
stand by video games do not kill people just like guns. People kill people and
that’s all there is too it. You done see a video game getting up and going and
shooting someone do you? No that’s exactly right and you never will.
Sales of video games have more than quadrupled from
1995-2008, while the arrest rate for juvenile murders fell 71.9% and the arrest
rate for all juvenile violent crimes declined 49.3% in this same period. This
is just some of the shocking good that video games have done that for some
reason people just seem to overlook. In
2008, 298.2 million video games were sold in the US, totaling $11.7 billion in
revenue. Six of the top ten best-selling video games included violence, with
four of the games carrying a "Mature" rating recommended for persons
aged 17 and older. Now as you can see 6 of the top 10 best-selling video games
where violent video games but I think that is a good thing. For one instead of
kids or people going out and taking there violence out on other people they are
taking it out in game instead of the real world which is better for everyone. Playing
violent video games provides a safe outlet for aggressive and angry feelings. A
2007 study reported that 45% of boys played video games because "it helps
me get my anger out" and 62% played because it "helps me relax."
So that proves it right there that they do more way more good then harm.
The main reason
that I want to research this topic is because I love video games it is a great
way to pass your time if you don’t have another thing to do. I also wanted to
do it because I love when people go talking about all this stuff that they
think they know and really know nothing at all. Like the examples I gave you
about some big names just blurting things out because it is what they think is
right! My argument would be that video games do not make people violent. In
fact I think that they do the population good not bad at all. Lastly my
essential research question was does video games really make people violent or
not at all?

Dear Editor in Chief:
My name is Win Underwood I am a
sophomore at HCS Early College High-School.
I am writing to address the topic of
violent videogames and how they do not make teens and young adults violent.
The purpose of violent videogames is to
be able to get the anger and violence you have inside out. They were not made
to make people want to get up and go shoot someone. I mean history tells the
facts, the medieval times where probably some of the most violent times in
human history. Did you see them playing video games no! They don’t make humans
any more violent than they already are. Another reason why it should not and
does not, is because multiple studies have been done, and they all came back
with video games helping people get out violence not producing it. I hope that
this has in lighted you thank.
Thank you so much for your time. I
appreciate your help and hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Win Underwood
The name of my article
is “Do Violent Video Games contribute to youth violence.” The author of my
article is ProCon.org and this is a web site put together by groups of people
contributing to a subject matter that has both points of view going in to debate
a topic.
The article reports on
both sides of video games causing violence in the youth population. Like for
one example is the way that it supports that video games do not contribute to
youth violence is “A 2007 study reported that 45% of boys played video games
because it helps me get my anger out and 62% played because it helps me
relax.” But in this they also debate the
other side of the article saying of how it hurts. Like as stated on page 2 as
“Violent video games teach youth that violence is an acceptable conflict-
solving strategy and an appropriate way to achieve one’s goals. A study found
that youth who play violent video games have a lower belief in the use of
nonviolent strategies and are less forgiving than players of nonviolent video games.”
One way that they get
there point across that is Violent Video Games do not clause violence in the
youth population is by using lots of numbers and how the higher the ratings
went up on violent video games the rate at which the youth population doing
crimes went down. So some might say that there is a correlation there not just
mere coincidence. Another way that that they use to get there point across is
by making the other side sound bad and that they are just making things up
because they don’t like video games not that they really cause violence in the
youth population.
